BeSecureWise

A cybersecurity education platform that translates real digital safety knowledge into plain language — so everyday people can spot scams, protect their privacy, and stay safe online.

The problem

Most security advice is written by experts, for experts. Meanwhile the people most exposed to online fraud, scams, and privacy loss — students, office workers, small business owners, everyday users across Ghana and West Africa — get little they can actually understand and use.

How I approached it

I treated this as a translation problem, not a content problem. The goal was to strip out jargon without losing accuracy, and to organise everything around how a normal person thinks about risk — "scams," "my accounts," "my phone" — rather than how a security professional categorises it. And because a platform that teaches safety has no business being unsafe itself, I built security into it from the ground up.

What it made possible

A growing, accessible knowledge base where anyone can learn to make safer decisions online — organised into clear everyday categories, easy to share, and built on a foundation I can keep expanding into articles, guides, and research.

Technical detail

Custom-built stateful PHP / MySQL / JavaScript web application with a fully bespoke CMS — publishing workflows, drafts, categories, featured and hero content, SEO-friendly slugs, and search. Role-based access across Administrator, Editor, Author, and Viewer, enforced front and back. A seven-category learning framework as the core navigation model. Custom analytics for views, shares, sessions, and engagement. Trust-focused sharing system with human-readable URLs and Open Graph metadata. Security by design: CSRF validation, session authentication, and secure API access controls. Deployed on hardened VPS infrastructure — chosen deliberately over shared hosting for a platform meant to grow.
